Child Care Services

The Ministry of Children#s Services sets the standards for daycares, family day homes, nursery schools and drop in centres that address the health, safety and well-being of pre-school children in care.

The Child and Family Services Authorities (CFSAs) oversee the delivery of child care in their region and provides parents with a range of child care options. Regulated and approved child care programs are continually monitored to ensure established standards are met and the children's health, safety and well being are protected.

The Child and Family Services Authority:

  • licences social care facilities for adults and children.
  • monitors and enforces standards of care in day cares, nursery schools and drop-in centres.
  • ensures that standards of care and operation are met and maintained in approved family day homes.
  • giveschildren with special needs an opportunity to be included in the activities of child care services through Inclusive Child Care.
  • administers the Child Care Subsidy Program to support low-income families with child care costs for their pre-school children attending licensed day care centres or approved family day homes.
